Close to 200 of the biggest and best performance boats in the country are expected to converge on Lake Havasu for Spectre Powerboats Desert Storm presented by Shugrue’s, which is as much fun for spectators as it is for participants.
The size and speed of these vessels – climbing to speeds of 150-mph and above – intrigue and excite spectators who watch from their own boats for from the shoreline of Lake Havasu.

This 16th annual event blows into town with events and activities from April 27-30. For spectators, the fun begins on Thursday, April 28 with the popular Street Party on McCulloch Boulevard from noon to 9 p.m. There, the public will see the giant display of boats, motors, accessories, services and related vendors. There is no charge to spectators.
This year, it will carry over to Rotary Community Park for the two-day Power in the Park Festival, which opens Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. It will have many of the displays and vendors from the Street Party set up to display their wares. There will be so much to see and do, including the CarQuest Hot Vehicle Show, Big O Burnout Contest, PWC Freestyle and Flyboard exhibitions, Outlaw Grand National Boat Race, Tavern 95 Freestyle Motorcycle Beach Jump, and music on the KJJJ/ Flying X Saloon Stage by Matt Farris and Sidewynder. All this is free to spectators. Rotary Community Park is also where the Desert storm headquarters is this year. See separate story for more information on Power in the Park.

Friday starts with the Parade of Power as the boats line-up off of Rotary Beach and parade through the Bridgewater Channel at 10 a.m. on their way to begin the Desert Storm Poker Run, the original event of Desert Storm.
On Saturday morning, starting at 9 a.m. the Desert Storm heavy hitters will participate in the DCB Shootout with high-speed record runs off of Site 6. The two-mile race course is set-up off of Site 6 at the end of the Island. Last year, the overall record and “King of the Desert,” was Win Farnsworth, whose 50-foot long, twin turbine-powered boat set the Lake Havasu Marine Association Lake Havasu speed record at 182 mph. Farnsworth and his team are returning and are hoping to better their own record in 2016.
The multi-day event will launch with charity boat rides, a welcome party and charity auction on April 27.
The Desert Storm Street Party – Thursday, April 28 – will allow attendees to see high-performance boats up close.
Desert Storm has become the largest performance boating event in the western United States, and the second-largest in the county. This prestigious event is produced by Desert Storm founder Jim Nichols of Lake Racer LLC in partnership with Jim Russell of Havasu-based DSM Events LLC. These major sponsors, plus the ongoing support of so many in the marine industry and local community is allowing the continued growth of the event by enabling Nichols and Russell to expand the activities that have made it the crown jewel of the west coast performance boating sport.

The Desert Hills Professional Firefighters Association hosted its second Annual Side by Side Poker Run Saturday morning, with 135 registered for the event. The winner was Brad Smith and he received $1,000. Anderson Toyota and Topock 66 were two of the major sponsors and the Side By Side Club were event volunteers.
The Desert Hills Professional Firefighters Association (DHPFFA) are a small group of dedicated firefighters who strive to protect the community they serve as well as those who visit year round.
The DHPFFA is currently organizing its second event to help raise more funds for the Fire District to continue its path to bring even better service to our off road response.
